60 Miles East

Texas climate is….well, mad! After a document incredibly hot summertime (Waco, the place daughter Lara lives, had 90 days more than one hundred – and that wasn’t even the record for the state!), you’d feel possibly winter months would calm down a bit. Nicely, this prior month as we’ve been at Camp Tejas in Giddings, TX (about 60 miles east of Austin) we’ve had days in the forty′s, nights in the twenty′s and then days in the eighty′s. It’s been a complete roller coaster of a thirty day period. Layers of coats and shorts. But early this morning wins the award for the craziest (and perhaps the scariest of them all). Soon after a night of large rain, the howling wind woke us up all-around 5AM. And when you reside in a tin can on wheels you Certainly Actually Actually feel the wind. We held on restricted, and kept listening for the camp to sound any tornado warnings. Finally, approximately nine the rain stopped and folks commenced venturing out of their rigs to evaluate any injury. The good news is, all the timber close to us held their ground, and all their branches. Right after seeing the news at noon (strength was back on by 11AM), we discovered that we had been the lucky ones indeed. We got about three inches of rain overnight. 50 miles to the SW – pretty much 9 inches! Tornadoes had been reported thirty miles south of us. When we saw the flooding and harm that had transpired so close, we knew that a little rockin’ and rollin in the dwelling (ok, and some wet carpet by the slide) was Nothing at all.

Properly, this prior thirty day period as we’ve been at Camp Tejas in Giddings, TX (about 60 miles east of Austin) we’ve had days in the forty′s, nights in the 20′s and then days in the 80′s. It’s been a somme roller coaster of a month. Layers of coats and shorts. Weighty frost and balmy mornings. Mad truly. But early this morning wins the award for the craziest (and probably the scariest of them all). Soon after a night of major rain, the howling wind woke us up all around 5AM. And then there was the rain that felt like it was coming in diagonal sheets, battering towards the sides of our tin can. We held on restricted, and kept listening for the camp to audio any tornado warnings. We lost electrical power all-around 6AM as the weather conditions ongoing to rage around us. Immediately after viewing the news at noon (electricity was again on by 11AM), we learned that we had been the lucky kinds certainly. We obtained about 3 inches of rain overnight. 50 miles to the SW – just about nine inches! Tornadoes have been noted thirty miles south of us. When we noticed the flooding and damage that had happened so near, we realized that a minor rockin’ and rollin in the household (ok, and some moist carpet by the slide) was Nothing. Thank-you, Lord, for sparing us (and our RV neighbors and camp hosts) any substantial hurt – and be with those people households who’s residences and livelihoods have been radically altered because of to previous nights storms..

It’s been a total roller coaster of a month. Sunshine and Rain. Layers of coats and shorts. Weighty frost and balmy mornings. But early this morning wins the award for the craziest (and maybe the scariest of them all). Once a night time of significant rain, the howling wind woke us up all-around 5AM. And when you reside in a tin can on wheels you Definitely Definitely Genuinely really feel the wind. And then there was the rain that felt like it was coming in diagonal sheets, battering against the sides of our tin can. We missing electricity all-around 6AM as the climatic conditions continued to rage around us. Fortuitously, all the trees around us held their floor, and all their branches. And even though the rest of the camp had lots of limbs and at the very least an individual massive tree (falling on the wires – hence the no energy)on the groundI do not feel that any of the structures ended up damaged or any of the individuals at camp hurt.
